Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS Corridor Fully Operational: Key Updates
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor has now become a fully operational regional transport network. The 82.15-kilometre corridor also includes the 23-kilometre Meerut Metro network, which operates on the same infrastructure.
According to information presented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor has been fully operational since February 2026. The network is designed to provide faster and more convenient connectivity between Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
More Than 3.8 Crore Passengers Have Used Namo Bharat
Since the beginning of operations, more than 3.8 crore passengers have travelled on Namo Bharat services. The corridor has also maintained a reported punctuality level of more than 99 percent, making reliability one of the major features of the service.
The corridor has also been developed with a focus on connecting different modes of public transport. This allows passengers to combine Namo Bharat services with other metro, railway and bus services during their journey.
Multimodal Connectivity Across the Corridor
Multimodal integration has been established along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor in accordance with the applicable UTTIPEC guidelines.
The corridor is connected with 3 metro lines, 2 railway stations and 4 bus terminals. Such integration is intended to make transfers between different public transport systems easier for commuters.
Three Corridors Prioritised Under Phase-I
Under Phase-I of the RRTS programme, three corridors were given priority:
- Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut
- Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar
- Delhi-Panipat
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is already fully operational. Detailed project reports have also been submitted for proposed corridors connecting Delhi with Karnal, Delhi with Bawal, Bawal with Behror, and Ghaziabad with Noida International Airport.
Future RRTS Projects Will Require Detailed Evaluation
RRTS projects involve significant investment and therefore go through detailed evaluation at different levels of the central government.
Financial support for a proposed corridor is considered after assessing factors such as project feasibility and the availability of required resources.
Transit-Oriented Development Along the Corridor
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has also taken steps to promote Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) around the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
TOD areas have been identified in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. Specific areas for TOD have also been incorporated into the relevant master plans of Ghaziabad and Meerut.
Under the Delhi TOD Policy 2021, NCRTC prepared Influence Zone Plans for TOD nodes at Jangpura and Sarai Kale Khan. The Delhi TOD Policy 2026 also provides for new RRTS corridors in Delhi to be automatically considered under TOD provisions.
7.8 MWp Rooftop Solar Capacity Installed
The corridor is also incorporating renewable energy into its operations. According to the information provided, a total rooftop solar capacity of 7.8 MWp has been successfully installed for the use of green energy.
35% Discount on Base Fare
Passengers are currently being offered a 35 percent discount on the base fare, according to the information provided by NCRTC.
A loyalty points system has also been introduced. Passengers can earn points while travelling on the RRTS network and use those points to receive discounts.
